About Accrington
Welcome to Accrington. Accrington is derived from the Old English “aecer” and “tun” meaning oak and town, respectively. Accrington is an exceptional place to study in. Nestled among beautiful rolling hillsides. Accrington provides stunning countryside views right at your doorstep. On top of the natural beauty, the town is steeped in grand history dating back to the medieval period.
Accrington is also within the Hyndburn borough of Lancashire and has easy access to neighbouring towns such as Blackburn and Burnley and is only 20 miles away from the nearest City Centre – Manchester, making it a great town for commuters due to its motorway links. Accrington is also historically renowned, for its cotton and textile industry and the famous Accrington Nori Brick as well as Accrington Stanley Football Club
Accrington benefits from a busy town centre as well as having more rural neighbouring areas also available to visit. Within the bustling centre there’s a large range of shops with plenty of choice with both high street shops and local independent stores, as well as a great number of convenient spots where you can grab a quick bite to eat.
Away from the busy centre there are some great green spaces in and around Accrington. For example, you can enjoy a relaxing trip around Oak Hill or Bullough Park, enjoy a spot of fishing at Devine Fisheries or a round of golf at Baxenden & District Golf Club. Oak Hill Park is even home to a yearly music festival in August which has proved to be a firm favourite within the local community! Peel Park is also situated at the foot of The Coppice providing great nature walks and has amazing views over the whole of the local area.

Living Costs
If you apply on or after 2 January 2025, you’ll need £1,136 per month outside London.
The cost of living expenses is dependent on so many factors. As a rough guide, we have calculated what it could cost you for the major items you will need when you are in the UK, especially if you are an international student that is applying.
Accommodation
May cost you £50 to £120 per week.
Bills
If you live in a house or apartment you will need to calculate water, heating and electricity into your budget – this can be anything from £10/week for all bills depending on the time of year.
Food
If you buy your own food, try and budget in about £25 to £30 per week to purchase food supplies. You can of course be smart about this and save much more.
Travel
If you live away from Rewire 360 you will need to include travel expenses in your budget. Travel expenses may cost you £10 or more a week.
Study Materials
In addition, you will need to account for stationery costs such as notepads, paper, pens etc, you will need and you should budget about £10 a month for this.
Telephone (landline)
BT has a base rate of £10/ month for just line rental so calls are charged on top of this so that would be £2.50 per week.
Telephone (mobile)
the cost of mobiles varies depending on the provider and tariff you are on. Prepaid is generally cheaper to control costs, but if you make a lot of calls a contract may start at £5 a week (£20 a month).
Internet
Most companies charge a base of £15 to £20 a month for standard Internet in the UK.
Fun
It’s not all study when you come to the UK, there will be time for some fun, so you need to think about the cost of this. A cinema ticket in the UK costs around £8, a DVD rental around £3. These are costs you will need to budget. So set aside what you’ll need for fun!
